SCiRN PhD Academy Mission & Vision
The mission of SCiRN’s PhD Academy members is to engage, together with SCiRN members, in the pursuit of research, generation of knowledge, and idea exchange about shrinking cities.
As a community of scholars, the PhD Academy seeks community/based learning that will permit its member to:
- gain a personal and collective deeper understanding of shrinking cities in an international context,
- apply this understanding to the solution of shrinking cities issues,
- contribute in research and in the diffusion of SCiRN research findings through collaboration in paper publications, conference participation, and organization.
SCiRN PhD Academy members uphold the following Participatory Action Research (PAR) principles:
- stress democratic participation of all involved
- acknowledge participants’ equal worth
- resolve conflicts that arise openly and dialogically
- stress personal cooperative relationships
- affirm life-enhancing values and expression of participants’ full human and intellectual potential.
